What to do

  Eating and nights out
In 2009 the Rock Tavern re-opened bringing a bit of the Caribbean to Upper Edge. Maxine offers homecooked Caribbean food Thursday - Monday. Friday night is quiz night and Saturday is the night for music.

There is a wide variety of places to eat in Elland with Chinese, Indian, Thai and Italian just a short distance from Pinfold Guesthouse. For more formal dining there is La Cachette or Berties Banqueting rooms which host functions though out the year. Huddersfield boasts an array of restaurants, everything from Greek to Thai with nightclubs for later for the young or young at heart!

  Shopping
In Leeds you will find high class retailers next to independent shops in traditional arcades. There is a historic market with over 700 stalls inside and out at Kirkgate. Relax in a city centre bar or perhaps take a  break in one of the many cafe bars.

Five miles from Pinfold Guesthouse is Huddersfield town centre. You will find all the usual high street stores as well as elegant Victorian arcades, where there are independent shops stocking local specialities

  Walking
Steve and Debbie are keen walkers and Pinfold is ideally situated in the heart of the Southern Pennines. The Pennine Way is just 25 minutes by car and there are some beautiful walks. Steve and Debbie are happy to provide suggestions, directions and even a packed lunch if requested in advance.

Hardcastle Crags is a beautiful valley maintained by the National Trust. Walk among deep rocky ravines, tumbling streams and pine woods. Once into the valley you will see the Crags - large stacks of millstone grit.

Over the years we have had numerous guests who are in the area tracing their family history.  These guests have told us that the Elland Historical Society, the Central Library in Halifax and the Library in Huddersfield have all been very helpful.  Some overseas visitors also mentioned that they found newspapers dating back to when their families were in the area very useful.  We also have a couple of books in the guest lounge containing photographs of Elland and the surrounding area taken in the 1880’s which are fascinating even if you aren’t researching your family tree.
